Fetches the public registration record of a domain from its registry: registrar, dates, status and name servers. It is how you check when a domain expires or who runs it.

  • Transport. WHOIS (port 43) via the registry named by IANA, following one registrar referral.
  • Apps. Enter the registered domain, such as example.com, without www.
  • Good to know. Many registries hide personal details for privacy, and some country registries do not publish WHOIS at all.
